The Count of Tuscany though... This was my introduction to the band, A Nightmare to Remember was way too heavy for me at the time; I was used to Linkin Park being the heaviest music ever lol

The Count of Tuscany also has what might be the worst fucking lyrics in all of prog metal. Also, A Nightmare to Remember I can't stand the harsh vocals and metal parts telling me that everything was fine after the crash. It's just soooooooooo so so so fucking cheesy and it is trying to be incredibly personal and real. It makes me want to jump out of a window. I might lower my rating, fuck this album.

Don't be too harsh on this one Lucca, musically there are some golden parts on here and LaBrie's performance is pretty good. I never gave the lyrics too much weight tbh, and I'm pretty good at completely ignoring them if needed :]

Yeahhhhh but this is coming from the band that gave me Scenes from A Memory and A Change of Seasons and if this album wasn't trying to be as personal and heartelt as those I would be able to overlook them without a problem.
But you're right, there are some standout performances here.

Haha, I love The Count of Tuscany. I never thought the lyrics were that bad tbh. Maybe they are, but the song is mostly dominated by the instruments that I never noticed.

You're better off ignoring DT's lyrics anyway. The blastbeats and metal grunting really kill A Nightmare to Remember, could've been a way better song (musically). I don't think the Count of Tuscany lyrics are THAT bad, the instrumental makes up for it. I also love the production here, the instruments sound so good. I wish A Dramatic Turn of Events had the production they used here

lmao i remember bumping this album when it came out...with mike portnoys dm growls and shit, it was jokes
i actually liked it tho, there were a couple of good songs

Was this around the time where they started wearing black leather jackets and taking portraits of themselves in threatening metal poses? Because that was kind of embarrassing.
Eh, I dunno I usually don't let lyrics get to me that much but imo they are just too fucking distracting for how much meaning this supposedly has to Portnoy's life.
And I dunno, I actually do think the lyrics to Count ARE that bad.
Also musically this has its moments, but it doesn't touch their earlier shit. Way better than their self titled, Systematic Chaos and The Astonishing though, those albums are garbage.
