Thank you fire. I think this was his last good effort.
Willie, I was hoping you would at least have enjoyed Emperor's first two magnum opus's. Glad to see that. And yes, they are special because they are some of the genres best. I would recommend Leviathan's Massive Conspiracy Against All Life for an easy step into this type of black metal.

Good review however, I feel it to be my duty to reinforce the strength of Eastern European black metal scene and their stronghold over the current Norwegian scene.

I was referring to the Graveworm/Dimmu Borgir bands. I'll check that album out this weekend.

Even the French scene (Peste Noire, Amesoeurs, Belenos, Mortifera) deserves some attention. Sputnik really needs more kvlt black metallers.
Or the return of Cravinov.

I need to hear more of these Eastern European/ French black metal bands besides the common ones.
Or the return of Cravinov.
Win.

Great review, but damn, I just loathe this guy. Especially when all the "khult" kids that i know consider this to be the pinnacle of depression.

Thanks dude....and its spelled "kvlt" hahaha.

Good review. I personally like Xasthur no matter how dumb Malefic appears. The vast majority of the modern USBM scene, especially the "depressive/suidical" type is total shit, but Xasthur can always deliver with interesting and well-written riffs and a perfect dull and hazy atmosphere.

I really don't see why people have a problem with Xasthur either.

I can see why they have a problem with his last few albums.
|

Haven't heard his recent stuff so I can't pass judgment.

He finally started using live drums instead of the ol' drum machine. Admittedly "All Reflections Drained" wasn't all that great, but I didn't have high expectations.

Pretty much his last two albums were very static-ey, drums barely audible, vocals that didn't even sound like vocals etc.

xasthur is a genius. Best wishes to him. I believe he is the only one that he is not playing the drum, guitar or bass, he is playing loneliness, maybe his music is the only thing that keeps him sane...
