Ambience is atmosphere... they're very much synonyms... Ambience is not cut and dry.

Hello. Please punch me in the face for not having checked this album out when it first came out. I just got it and I'm listening to the first song. So good.

Just wait till you hear the rest of it.

Seriously, this album is so good...it's got to be one of my all time favorites. The way they make music is so perfect. You'll appreciate it a lot more as well if you see them live. Their style is so dependant on the little nuances that go into it. It's not easy music to play, but it comes off as being very emotional.

I don't think I can listen to a band that has no singer.

Australasia is good, and I owe it the opening of my eyes to the Post- genre, but this seriously owns it on so many levels. It takes what they did well, and perfected it, basically. There's not a single thing wrong with it.

you really should try, this guys are excenllent. try and expand your horizens you know. look up some Victer wooten or some jaco pastorious, or if you really want to get crazy how bout some primus (bring it on toaster) broaden your musical taste. now im not commanding you to do so just a friendly suggestion

I have tried. Don't say I havn't. As for you people who are sick of me, grow up, you don't even know me.

In honesty, I think vocals make a band. Anybody can play good music, but unless you've heard a song so many times, you can't reconize a band purely on the music. That's what I'm trying to say, vocals make up a diffrent 'character', if you will, for a band.

see i view bands excactly diffrent. i look at the musician ship of a band first because the way I see it is you dont have to have great musical tallent to be considerd a great singer/vocalist

You and I are on similar terms with Agalloch, as I can see. Am I right? Well they have instrumentals. A good amount of them. Agalloch actually concentrate on atmosphere as opposed to vocals, but they balance. Pelican doesn't need a vocalist to build up character because the instruments make up for it. The instruments create the backdrop, setting, soundscape, atmosphere--- whatever you call it. But it's your viewpoint.

I think of vocals as an instrument always. Therefore, I think some bands need vocals abotu as much as they need a 2nd bassist. It just isn't necessary here. The only way I could see it would be as a low in the mix singing and not words, "aahhs" and such would be much more suitable.

agreed, vocals are another instrument in the band. and sometimes i find its good just to chill to instrumental bands because without vocals it can really draw you in to the beauty in the melodies and really take you away. i recomend giving them a try
