LOL. Unless the music in question literally causes lacerations in the listener or makes nearby puppies' heads explode, brutality is NOT an objective aspect - it is a term used to describe the feeling of the music, which is entirely subjective. Objective aspects are melodic structures, time signatures, motifs, harmonies, etc. And yes, a blastbeat form of drumming is an objective facet - it just doesn't really matter that an album is full of them just because they're blastbeats.
Let me clarify: why you like an album is irrelevant to anybody else, because they aren't you. Saying that you like an album because it's by your favorite band ever, or because it makes you feel special, or whatever gibberish, isn't going to make anyone else interested in hearing it. Conversely, saying you don't like an album because it's not your style (a useless tautology in itself) is not going to make others want to avoid hearing it. Describing the MUSIC (i.e., not your opinion of it) actually tells the reader something he can verify for himself, if he wants to.
It also makes readers more likely to trust your opinion. If they can see that you form your opinions through study, they'll recognize that you actually put effort into understanding something before trying to communicate it. This prevents your from misleading them into hearing something with incorrect expectations. Your personal impressions of the music are fine, but nobody cares about them - the readers will have impressions of their own.

Enough of this riff raff, this isn't even an argument. And besides I don't know any word more obscure than "tautology".

One of the most cold and hateful bm albums around, 4.5 for me.
I’m currently listening to some of the Bone Awl demos and while they aren't quite on par with this or Forest Poetry it's pretty obvious where much of the inspiration has come from.

Bone Awl is definitely great, and the only band I know that directly emulates Ildjarn.

I've been swayed to some extent to lower my rating of this album and I may rewrite the review altogether.

MA is good because it has a lot of information on "underground bands" but people will upload just about anything on there, making for a good amount of shit.

Pretty funny reading these comments, why the hell are people looking at this if they dont follow ugbm and then criticise for not having heard of it wtf. Ildjarn is very respected for a niche style, in the same way as groups like blasphemy or beherit they are an aquired taste.
Noisymugwump you shouldnt feel the need to back down because some loud mouths dont understand how something can be a classic just because they havent heard of them, im pretty sure these same people wouldnt know nuclear death.
