metalstyles, have you heard Thrice's 'Vheissu'? I'd rate that in the 4.5-5 region.
Fair opinion Tom. I am also a fan of the title track from 'War All The Time'. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad album at all. I rated it a 3 & it's probably around the 3.2 mark for me, but that's about it. As for the other comments directed at you, I think you've got thick enough skin to handle it. I'm fairly certain most of those believe 'Full Collapse' to be Thursday's #1, but to each their own.
James/metalstyles, I almost don't try to keep up with every album that comes out. If I did, I would basically give no more than 2-3 listens to each new release & I don't want to do that. Why? Look no further than this album which took multiple listens to really unravel itself to my ears.
Having said that, the 3 artists you mention are all on my list to get around to James. Not so much Isis & Mastodon.

The correct answer to your question Dougie is to begin at Thursday's 2nd album 'Full Collapse' and then work your way through to this one, their 5th. Only that way can you see their true progression and judge for yourself which is their best album to date.

no I have not heard Thrice's Vheissu but if that is that good then i think I will during this week.
Fair point about the new albums. There is just so much stuff that comes out that if you try to look into every one of them then you really can't enjoy and appreciate an album. So it's better to choose a few and look into them. I want to hear Mastodon just because it is so praised and I want to se if I think the same way. Isis and God Forbid are on the top of my list though.

Well metalstyles, we have different tastes in music, so yeah, we are going to choose different albums. But it is indeed better to target the few & give them all a good listen.
