Hobo - Hip hip is not crapping up our charts. Hip-Hop is lucky if it makes it on the charts, very underappreciated genre.
But this cd, This cd Crapped the shit out of our charts. Although didn't sales of it bomb after the first week.
I was extremely dissappointed in this album. I'm with the majority on this one. Mosh and Like Toy Soldiers are really the only good songs on this. There was a song that he didn't put on cuz it was leaked...it was good, can't remember the name tho. I'll post if i remember.

HIP HOP IS LUCKY IF IT MAKES THE CHARTS?!?!?! GOOD GOD!!! IVE NEVER LAUGHED SO HARD ON THIS SITE.
Hip hop is the charts. most of Hip Hop is ass grabbin pervs or sluts in thongs writing words that dont even exist. ("Crizzle McFizzle, Ma Nizzle").
Point being: Rock is whats having trouble getting up the charts.

you sir, obviously can't distiguish between hip hop and rap. There is a difference. Hip Hop very rarely ventures into the subject matter of the shit that is popular these days. Hip Hop is a lot more underground. Hip Hop is a mentatilty as well. Hip Hop really isn't that popular in Top 40 music. I don't wanna come across as a dick, but I just dont think you know the difference between rap and hip-hop. Because it's huge.
And yes, good rock is having trouble getting up in the charts. And thats a damn shame. This Message Edited On 11.19.05

The fucking truth!!! Rap can go to hell!
It's beating the crap out of rock in terms of sales.
But the thing beating both of them is people downloading music illegaly. Stop it people!!!

Cush, who would u call hip hop? Just outaa curiosity

Meh, there's good rap out there too...you just have to look for it. Eminems first albums are about as obvious as it gets.
And yes, downloading is load of shit. But so are the prices of cds. I'm torn.

Atmosphere (more well known), Deltron, Swollen Members (Essentially Canada's Eminem in terms of popularity or so i'm told) , Common (Very well known, now), Guru, Saul Williams, The Crest, The Roots (Very well known), Aesop Rock (Although he's got that gangsta accent that puts me off a bit), Zion I...
Stuff like that. Might still not be your thing, but man...100x's better than the stuff that people call rhyming thats blowing up the radio these days. Some of them are some of the most gifted lyricists I've ever heard. It's just all about what your in to.

Common is great, but he raps. How is he any different from say Kanye West, only a rapper?
|
| |
haha, I see what your saying. The genre of hip hop is "rapping"...but its all about lyrical content. Actually listen to some of those guys lyrics and you'll see what I mean. You'll notice that you enjoy Common...because he isn't rapping the same, tired, money loaded, problem free life that most of these mainstream guys are preaching. He's got lyrical skill.
There's a lot more to Common than the beat that the producers throw behind him. I love a good beat as much as the next person, but lets face it, a lot of people like Snoop, Nelly, and G UNIIIIT! because they can dance to it.

I dunno man, this might not make sense to someone who isn't as passionate about hip-hop as I am. It just bothers me when people don't realize that there is so much more out there in the world of beats and rhymes than whats on MTV.

Fair enough. In I have a lot of repect for Common as a rapper, very clever, but according to your defenition, wouldnt kanye be a hip-hop artist, with songs like Diamonds Of Sierra Leone and Jesus Walks?
P.S. Keep trying Kripes. Naked women do not a good avatar make.
|
| |
There are artists that blur that line, The big reason that I have a problem with kanye west is who he produces. He actually isn't a horrible rapper. But he does have those songs that are just mindless shit that are to appeal to the masses.
And yea, kripes...no.

Eminem, this man has done nothing but bring hate on himself, his music is appauling. I dont think i have to say anymore. If you like rap, then this man isnt it, try others, but not him.

Eminem slowly went downhill since MM LP. When I'm Gone is dreadfully whiney and boring, I can't believe how popular it is. It's just him whining about his life for 3 or 4 minutes to a weak melody. Come on, if it's not making carbon copies of The Real Slim Shady or My Name Is for singles, it's making a single about how it's so hard to be him. I'm sure it was hard at times Em, but stop being such a an attention whore. He whines more than Burt McCracken at a hygiene convention.

God some of the comments here are retarded.
There's no difference between 'rap' and 'hip-hop', people! Although KRS-One (the genre's very own cranky old man who complains about how good it was back in his day) insists that 'hip-hop' is a lifestyle as well as a genre and that 'rapping' was the actual act of rapping (and even then he insists that it be called 'MCing'). Whatever.
"Like Toy Soldiers" is the only decent song on this album, and even then it's really only okay by itself.
And this was a pretty crummy review.

I disagree with Illmatic, the difference between Hip-Hop and Rap is all in the beat. Rap is a little more focused on ryhmes and has much less dense production. The beat is either extremly heavy or minimilist clicking paired with catchy synths. Hip Hop beats tend to feature lots of samples and complex drumming. Hip-hop is the middle of the spectrum as far as intense beats go. I'm not saying Hip-Hop ryhmes are worse then rap in any sense (most times they are better) The genre of rap/hip-hop should be blending production and rapping, but rap focuses more on the latter (usely making it less danceble.) If it's about lyrical content what would a Tribe Called Quest be? Alot of there lyrics are about sex.
Plus this reveiw was pretty decent.
As far as the album goes It was a terrible disapointment. Ass like that was attoricius.
