Disingenuous lol i’m just saying gun to my head if i had to pick one that i like more itd be this. Most of dillas best stuff is not on donuts anyway. Whereas this has some of madlibs best shit to this day
| |
I just don’t understand the logic behind dumping on a dead man’s legacy by comparing a legendary instrumental beat tape made in the fuckin hospital to a full on collaborative vocal concept album
| |
I agree that donuts is not his best I just think it’s a smooth brained comparison
| |
Like take madlibs best best tape and compare it to donuts that would make more sense but this comparison doesn’t make any sense
| |
also I think we can all agree that amplify by q-tip is madlibs best production to this day

they're 2 of the biggest albums in the stones throw/sp303/jazzy hip hop/ whatever you want to call it canon, i dont think its that strange to give an opinion on which one i like more. i dont disagree that theyre obviously very different albums, but they were friends and influenced each other, there's a lot of madlib influence in donuts and lots of dilla influence all over madlibs productions. "dumping on a dead man’s legacy" is very dramatic
| |
It’s a stupid comparison
| |
Yeah I don't get the comparison at allllll
| |
It’s just so unequivocal of a point of reference to compare the two producers that it feels like it is one that is made solely for the sake of being able to say “madlib is better” which is why it strikes me as disingenuous and disrespectful to dilla.
| |
Fasho - honestly I don't even think of them as even the same style at all. Madlib is my "rappers" producer and Dilla is the vibe dude...
| |
didnt shades of blue use to have a review? it did right
| |
I mean if you look at their career trajectories (including all the i n s a n e shit dilla went uncredited for) it’s pretty evident that if dilla was alive today he would pretty much be a pop producer
| |
There is an alt timeline where Kanye died and dilla lived and I want it
