this is easily his weakest heyday album tbh, some touching tracks but an absolute snooze end-to-end. No More Shall We Part is a huge improvement (though a bit of a grower); takes everything dour about this and ties it to far more compelling songwriting and arrangements. Abattoir/Orpheus lowkey fucks too, defs don't skip that

That’s reassuring. Yeah I found this too consistently dour in tone and a lot of the arrangements seem to have been completely stripped back. Very ‘one note’ and the pacing is certainly a slog.
