the phrase 'diamond in the rough' is certainly applicable here when referring to the tracks on the album

I haven't listened to this since the week it was released but I recall the Imagine cover being pretty powerful, and Passive was good. It's just that this outfit releasing a cover album felt a bit like seeing Einstein spending a year on sudoku, and their massive radio silence after this really hurt. I thought we were friends but they didn't call, they didn't write... It's also sad that Tapeworm never happened, I would have killed to see Maynard collab with Reznor. I wonder what went wrong.

Josh Freese didn't like this album much sounds like lol
"How do you feel about the cover of Imagine by A Perfect Circle?
I liked it. I like it more now than I did then. When we did, I didn’t think much of it. As a matter of fact, I didn’t think much of that whole record. As time went on and we did a tour in 2010, we played a lot of the songs off there and it was kinda cool. I liked the cover."

Very underrated, this is APC at the top of their game from recording and touring together for a healthy stretch and they got together to tackle some cover songs that they felt would be a welcoming marriage of the unique APC sound and I personally think they picked a great collection of songs to try and fuse their style with. I personally love this album because I like when a band isn’t afraid to try something different and challenge themselves knowing full well what the risks are and that failure could result in loss of fans, loss of respect, loss of financial opportunities and worst of all possible complete deterioration of a band. Of course many fans are gonna hate when a band makes a change because they are abandoning what many of the fans like about them in the first place, but like in all forms of life you have to be willing to evolve if you ever want to grow and reach new areas of terrain. I’ve come to appreciate this album more and more over the years because I’ve learned not to expect things from bands/artists and to just enjoy the experience which is something that definitely comes with age because I didn’t have that perspective years ago when I first bought this album. When I first heard it I thought it sucked except for “Passive.” Then I started to get into the Beatles and Lenon which made me go back and give the song “Imagine” another shot and I loved it. Then I started to get into other artists I wasn’t previously familiar with and that made me go back and give more songs another chance until one by one I started to love everything about this album. To each his own but I think it’s all a matter of perspective, once you discard the notion of expecting this album to be this or that and instead just enjoy it for the fact that there’s nothing else like it then it should start to take on a whole new meaning.

I don't get the hate for this. A few experiments gone wrong here, but there are some enjoyable songs. It's a passable cover album.

^Agreed, there's probably 3-5 really good songs on this and I'd call that a successful cover album lol

What's the deal with the hatred for this lol. It's not Mer De Noms or 13th Step but it's still great IMO. If they didn't have the energy and / or inspiration to make another album as classic as those, well... whatayagonnado
