Breakdown call out in Mr. Highway's Thinking About The End brought the lulz.

"They are built to be loved by a fairly small demographic of kids, and hated by pretty much everyone else. "

this band is enormous. they play huge shows. i dont know why, but they are. But try going to some shows. Not just shows for the bands you enjoy, but also for bands like these just to see what's REALLY going on. Of course you'll have to mind all the eight year olds...

there are some bands that i love because they are an amazing live band even though their record sucks.

I swear, everythime Iluv has a negative review, someone says something about his opinion being wrong because he likes Maroon 5, or some band along those lines.

It never gets old.

To balance out the rating since all the haters gave it a 1. I thought we all knew how these things worked. This Message Edited On 02.15.09

How uncharacteristically optimistic of you Mr. Hanson.

I am really diggin' this album. Reminds me of summer for some reason, and that's always a good thing.

Well written review, even though I disagree on most of it. When it comes to "Pop-Mosh" these guys know what they are doing.

Well I thought this record was really good.

Don't forget to check out New Found Glory's (myspace.com/newfoundglory) new record out 3/10, "Not Without a Fight" since ya know - Chad from NFG produced this one!

"...the Maroon 5 argument is dumb simply because there is nothing wrong with Maroon 5."

so my opinion is completely invalid simply because you have a different opinion? now THAT is what i call dumb.

it's like this. Maroon 5, whether or not you like them, is undeniably shallow, mostly one-dimensional pop music. fun maybe, but still shallow. a guilty pleasure for spunky soccer moms. does that make them bad? NO.
however, if Hanson is going to try to claim that A Day To Remember sucks simply because they sound like a hardcore New Found Glory, and he happens to think that it sounds gay, then he's being extremely hypocritical. Maroon 5 may be fun, but they're extremely non-creative, even for pop. and while he may think Homesick is derivative and annoying, they actually have a fairly unique sound. this whole review is really just a prolonged rant on why he thinks their sound sucks: it's not even close to objective.

Hanson:
as far as i can tell your point is this: their sound has not progressed at all since they started. you didn't like their sound from the very beginning, so you've been consistent in your dislike of them ever since.
the reason why you are not being objective is this: there are lots of people who are into the genre that Homesick fits into. a bunch of pop-punk kids who would not normally like metalcore can really get into A Day To Remember. Obviously, just because a lot of people like a band doesn't mean they're good. However, these guys fit the genre they're shooting for VERY well.

now, notice that i never said i thought this album was any good. in fact, i mostly agree with you: i think it's tepid & boring. however, suppose someone really did like this style of music, but hadn't heard this album, and wanted to know whether or not it would fit their tastes. they would get absolutely nothing out of this review. all they would get is that you personally hated this album for the most part.

most people who search for a review of Homesick would do it because they had liked A Day To Remember's past albums, and they want to know in detail what the new album sounds like so that they can decide whether to buy it or not. this review would not give them any useful information at all.

Chan:
i am willing to bet a LOT of money that you didn't like that KITW album. therefore, the "incorrect and outlandish statements" would be more like "statements i don't agree with and are therefore wrong." actually, i think that review of mine was quite objective. i'm not a huge fan of the genre, but because there are lots people who are, i wrote a review from the perspective of "how well this album fits into the genre and how well the band executes the style of the genre." you can disagree with me, but it doesn't make what i said incorrect. it just means you're sacrificing your objectivity.

i see what you're saying, and it does make sense. However, is that all reviews are, just muti-paragraph opinions? it seems like it's good to look at an album, at least a little bit, from the perspective of someone who's into the genre. you could get into a little more detail of how the album sounds, and how well it fulfills it's purpose within the genre.

it's a good review for sputnik though, because lots of reviews on here are just opinions, and most people will agree with you on this one. i guess what i'm saying is just that this review and others like it wouldn't really help anyone outside of sputnik, or give anyone any in-depth insights into what the album sounds like.

for a purely subjective opinion review though, it's really good. very well written.
