Stapp harmonizes fairly well in certain tracks.

Yah because people are finally listening to the full album and not just going off biased opinions of the shitty singles.
This album would be a full star rating higher without the blind votes.

Haha but I dig the whole thing. What If is a jam, and that was a big single right?

Yes but it was completely demolished by "With Arms Wide Open" and "Higher" which are two of the biggest singles of the late 90's and in modern rock history.

This album has a key feature that all great albums have: a unifying theme. Musically, throughout the album you will hear a Middle Eastern desert theme; basically playing sitar notes with an electric guitar. But more interestingly is that lyrically you'll find a similar theme- the Children of Israel lied to and abandoned in the Middle Eastern desert. It is a very interesting feedback, and as crapped on as Creed is, very few albums have a complete musical theme that also match a complete lyrical theme. This album is way underrated due to the popularity of ripping on creed. Yes their are pop songs here (as if that is a bad thing smh), and yes there is some pretentiousness. But this album is a solid work of art that is a lot better than people pretend.
I always have believed that you should judge art on its own merits and on whether it achieved the apparent artistic vision. In this case I think it came very close to that, and despite the fluff it attains a hard to reach level of artistic quality.

Their only good album all the way through. My Own Prison has some decent hits, as does Weathered, but I can actually bear the deeper cuts here.
Scott Stapp's voice gets annoying after a while though. Alter Bridge will forever be a better band as a result.

I like My Own Prison straight through more, as it doesn't really have any overtly cheesy songs like Higher or With Arms Wide Open. Whats this life for is kind of cheesy but still really great.
My Own Prison is just extremely solid for a rock band debut, knowing they recorded the whole thing for so cheap and it was so consistent is pretty impressive.

I recall there being a lot of doze off points for me on My Own Prison.
