the guitar tone on this album in particular has a nice melancholic sound to it which makes all the trem riffs sound nicely despondent. I think that aspect alone helps round out some of the other clunky aspects of the record.

It's crazy how well developed this record is for being his first with this project.

when he didn't know what he was doing at all and each song is totally different bc he just randomly wrote stuff and slapped it all together

A master of disjointed songwriting that ends up being better than 99% of bands that take themselves too seriously

Somehow the production is better here than on collapse lol

yupppppp. really hope the new stuff does actually sound like this and get mixed that way. this is less bombastic than recent stuff but it's more intimate that way.

think i'm gonna jam the panopticon discog today at work

How is this rated so high on here compared to RYM?
Usually the scores on RYM are about the same, if you add 0.5 stars/points to the score (since the rating system starts with 0.5 stars)
Anyway, i want to get into Panopticon but the amount of records is kinda overwhelming. Winter is the best time atmo BM though probably. I had a cursory listen to Autumn Eternal a year ago and it sounded rather accessible. Is this or are the first few records less atmospheric?

This has a 100 less ratings here than it does on RYM and I feel like people on RYM tend to be more stingy w/their ratings due to that being the main function on the site where here rating is secondary (for the most part) to the discussion.
I don't know if I would say they are less atmospheric, but they're atmospheric in a different ways. I feel like most of his post-Kentucky material aimed for very seasonal/location-based atmospheres whereas the atmosphere on the pre-Kentucky material was centered more around moods and feelings.
