Good job the review even though I disagree with you. Yes, LP isn't technical compared to bands like Metallica but I don't think LP is trying to be all pretentious. They don't rely too much on technicality, they rely on musicality. All the riffs are simple (chords), but you gotta give Brad credits for creating riffs that expresses strong hostility and angst. Brad might not have any solos on this album, but I find his chord progression to have a lot of soul and emotion. Think about it. Compare Metallica's "Master of Puppets" to "One Step Closer" in riff wise. MOP is supposed to be a hostile and angry song, but the riffs doesn't do too much to express the lyrics. Now OSC, the riffs shows hostility (bridge) and angst (chorus) which is exactly what the lyrics are about.

hah i remember back when this came out people in magazines and the like were praising brad delson (guitar), saying he was as heavy and distorted as some death metal guitarists or even comparing him to Zakk fuckin' Wylde.



i was 15 at the time and even i was like "wtf!?!?"
