I think Anna Von Hausswolff has heard this album. A couple of times. Starblood for instance gives me big AVH vibes.

Good call, think I agree with that - something to do with the tribal-sounding percussion and vocal delivery / tone
|
| |
Yeah, exactly. Overall vibe, percussion, voice, they all fit.
This was nice indeed Demon. Curious what subsequent sessions will bring, now back to Stereolab!

I'm optimistic this will hold up, very good stuff. It's making me want to go on a gothic binge (in various forms) as I think the vibe really resonates with me, yet I know very little about it.
I keep meaning to revisit non-Dots / Ketchup 'lab and keep spectacularly failing to do so. Seems as though you're obsessed!

I am. Totally. Have been for a couple of years now. Very diverse discog, very high quality throughout. And that's including their massive b-sides catalogue.
Have you ever checked Sisters Of Mercy? Another super good group with connections to the goth world.

Nope, that's what I mean. I haven't even gotten around to checking the well-regarded goth bands from the 80s. I could make a decent-sized list myself to kick things off, then maybe I'll do a rec request session or something. We'll see how it goes.
I need to stop listening to average new releases in order to free up some more time, lol

| |
That too is very recognisable. My 'new' new music listening has come to a full stop now, only occasionally check older records. I'm just not in the mood for some reason.
Sisters of Mercy definitely should be at/near the top of your list, they mega rule, we could bump those threads to bits!!!

according to my RYM... 92/127 ratings of 3/5 or below for the current year - I'm finding gems, but honestly quite a few of the great releases I knew about already and would've checked regardless
I like the process, but sometimes the results aren't exactly spectacular!

Sisters of Mercy are much closer to the camp/b-movie end of goth than this, but yh Floodland is solid and worth a spin
I want a whole Stereolab album in the style of Suggestion Diabolique/Space Moth/Monstre Sacre. They could have done some mean gothic kitsch

Nice. I will prioritise SoM then Trif, thanks for the tip!

"Space Moth" 🌌🦋🪐!!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍
Would be lovely yes Johnny I would be all for that.
Also yes RE the campiness of Sisters, they do make that sound work wonders.
