I kind of like the super oppressive production on this album. I kind of even enjoy the production on St. Anger. Really any flaws either album has comes down to shitty writing or lyrics more than shitty production. No one really knows how Metallica is supposed to sound in 2015 so any style of production that makes them not sound like every other 2000s metal band is good with me.
