Great Great album, by far my favorite from TOOL, 4 Degrees and Undertow being my two favorite tracks on the album, followed by Intolerance and Crawl Away.

There's no way that this album is Tool's best, not by a longshot. It's got some enjoyable material on here but I can't really listen to it all the way through and enjoy like I can with their other three releases.

tool is an amazingly talented band with great chemistry and this album is just one of the examples anyone can use to prove that. i don't know of any other current band, aside from dream theater, that can put together a completely solid album time after time...and i know some will have contrary thoughts. however i'm speaking in terms of artistry. these guys don't just walk into a studio then write and produce an album in a few days like metallica...who suck gonads. the songs all have substance and a good balance of complexity. carey is phenominal...no back beating there. his style is so diverse and only he can create a mood that flows so well with a song. having said that...i think the departure of d'amore helped the band expand the horizon...H, aenema, and third eye definitely wouldn't have been possible with him. i'd give the album a 4 of 5 in comparison to aenima, lateralus but 5 in comparison to any other bands work especially during that time period...way ahead of its time.
