meh, stuff like that is mostly why I loathe death/doom

like, there's not a single band in that sub-sub genre that I really love

how much have you heard? Because these guys don't really sound like most of the death/doom that we get now. Disembowelment are literally death metal parts and doom metal parts played after each other, whereas modern death/doom sounds pretty different

Novembers Doom (dont like at all), early MDB (really like TLTS but the rest is shit), Winter (decent but unspectacular). I kind of wrote off the genre after hearing these ones.

I really like it when death metal bands put doom parts into songs to good effect (ie Incantation, Autopsy etc) but "death/doom" just bores me

Yeah, not really good bands to have an opinion of the genre. Winter are good in the fact they basically created the death/doom genre, but their album is even older than this. I think you might like Anathema - Serenades, that's more like death metal with doom parts in songs, and failing that give some of these a listen

Mourning Beloveth - The Sullen Sulcus
DoomVS - Aeternum Vale
Ataraxie - Slow Transcending Agony (a lot slower, but good)

Missed this as well, nice review but cripes. I was assuming this a brutal death, Tampa like band but names can be assuming. I'll check them out a bit later.

haha nup, they're (I'll proudly add) an aussie band. If you listen to the track Nightside of Eden, which is a sort of mellow track with a girl doing some talking in the background, you can pretty easily spot the aussie accent :D

Speaking of grit, the production on Transcendence Into The Peripheral is about as raw as the thighs of a Tour de France rider.
You were going to get a pos vote anyway, but for that line it's now mandatory. But for that line I don't think I'd like it either. I'm a baby when it comes to bad productions.

It's not actually 'bad', it's just raw. I can't really explain it. It's not like it's bad as in a black metal album's production is bad. I know you only buy albums, so maybe this will help you out:

Listen to the track 'The Tree of Life and Death'.

I use a word in the review which describes the production pretty well; 'abrasive'.

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out when I get off work, because musically this sounds like it could be pretty cool.

Really cool review.

I listened to this entire album and followed it with a Killers song, it was like eating 100% cocoa chocolate followed by a sugar lump. This Message Edited On 01.01.09
