i imagine the whole track is the musical equivalent of watching porn while hallucinating in a heatwave

Yeah. Revisiting this now and think I agree with Karen. If anything it may be less satisfying than I remember.

is there a good deep run article/interview on this dude? dabbled in his work here and there and it's pretty unique and apparently quite influential

the one metalsucks interview where he spazzes out over Relapse and Danny Roddy gives a good impression of him at his worst. there was also an interview he did way back in like '04 where he very much is butthurt over the fallout between him and the mastodon dudes and their subsequent success while also trying to look like the "bigger man". he mellowed out over the years though, he's way more chill.

if you want a armchair psychologist-tier overview of the dude from a fan, he's basically that moderate-libertarian-ish individualist type that has trouble socializing/communicating as a result growing in a lower-class rural south family which subsequently influenced his music and jeopardizes his working relationships. listening to this album exemplifies this, all the weird jumps between self-loathing vulnerability and sudden lashing outs in the name of "me vs the world" can only be properly done by a dude of his type. it also explains why he was best friends with seth putnam since that guy was basically in the same class as him.
