I'd like to point out to the people who believe giving this album a poor score subseqently means you have no credit as a music reviewer that this received a score of 59/100 on metacritic, with four sources, including All Music Guide and the Boston Globe, giving it a 50/100. Would you say that those are not credible review sources?

Oh God, I love the sound off for this.

Man, I just got my daily dose of irony.
Go ahead and pan the album and wish for another Painkiller.

With that in mind, listeners should at least take solace in the fact that that Nostradamus isn't another vain attempt at creating a Painkiller
I'm mostly through with trial number tres as I write this, and the resolution is starting to get a little sharper. Prophecy and Nostradamus are great songs. Great way to open and close a concept piece. But, what about all the filling in the creamy center? A lot of is really tired and uninventive, I'd have to admit. Based on what I heard on 'Angel of Retribution', coupled with how tremendous the last Maiden album was, I really thought that Judas Priest's move into Progressive Metal was going to be huge. But, this isn't really a move into Prog-Metal at all. There's nothing truly progressive about. Not one change or bridge that gets the listener off. At least the recent Iced Earth recording has several sub-sections that cause me to keep returning to it. And, like a few users have already noted, Ripper's performance on that one is outstanding. I've been noticing a general move towards a more progressive approach to songwriting in Metal, and this is something I'm all for. The debut Baroness and Giant Squid recordings have me creaming all over myself with excitement. Bloody brilliant. Untouchable, I think. Another album that inspired faith in this new Priest project was Queensryche's Mindcrime 2. The album can't measure up against the original, and it does have a horrid opening and closing, but the entire core of the record, tracks 4 through 10 are near flawless. And, I would put that stretch of the album up against the original. I thought this is what we were gunna get with 'Nostradamus'. At least, this is what I was hoping for. But, it looks like the boys from Birmingham totally forgot to bring their chops and a healthy dose of inspiration to the sessions for this record. I'm quite possibly thinking a '2.5' for this double album. But, would give it another run-through before delivering a final rating....I just might deliver a final 'ranting' before I do that. lol.

Why, because we don't agree with you? You should create a 'utopian' computer program where all the little characters walk around with 'your' ideas in their heads. That's a world you could appreciate.

don't you think you're a little extreme?

anyways, I could care less about how subjective you see me, because I didn't mention any of that in the first place. I wasn't pointing the finger at you - i was mainly pointing out the certain types of people that say "if you don't give this a 3.5 or up somethings wrong with you" etc. Don't pull that shit with me.

Extreme?....OK, yeah. But, I kinda think I was one of those who absolutely couldn't understand a rating of a '2' for this recording. Then again, I don't think I even heard the album at that point. lol. I was basing my review solely on the prior album. I truly couldn't see Priest delivering anything worse than 'Angel'. I even thought it was going to be better. So, my initial reaction was due to the disappointment that this thing might actually suck, coupled with a nice healthy disdain of the "rush to judgement" tendency I've seen too often with reviewers. But, bottom line is that this recording isn't very good. Not good a'tall. There's plenty enough schitt in the Metal world at present. I didn't think Priest was going to join that cast of characters.

You don't think 'Angel of Retribution' was solid? Schitt, I think that the tracks 'Judas Rising' and 'Angel' ALONE might be better than all 23 tracks on the new one. 'Demonizer' and 'Worth Fighting For' are another two instant classics. I remember watching an interview on VH1 with Halford, Downing and Tipton upon the release of the last effort and they said that they had yet another album's worth of material already completed from the'AOR' sessions. That's the record they should have released NOW. Probably was something just as worthy as AOR.

Did anyone ever see a documentary from the 80's called Heavy Metal Parking Lot'? I think our friend 'pointtopoint' just might be from this particular parking lot. lol. Unless he's an 'english as a second language' transplant, and then I do apologize. Either way, the inbred morons from this doc. is beyond funny. Check out the clips.

What's the next big Metal release up on deck? Has anybody heard any samples for the new Metallica? Does anyone have any faith that it'll be any better than St. Anger?
