Idk, I think I have similar tastes to Boney, he seems to like the more accesible stuff, and I find Red to not be that. I think I have it 3'd whereas I have 13 Songs 4.5'd, probably should be a 5, and Repeater and the Argument are very solid 4's.

Anyway my apologies to Malkmus for hijacking Pavement thread. Unfair is basically the best song ever still.

I'd say start with Repater and the 7 songs/ 13 songs ep. Then Red Medicine.

Red Medicine is amazing but it's less of an immediate listen imo because it combines their classic sound with Sonic Youth and Slint.

13 songs is 'people screaming' punk - not very Boney (probably)

Red Med sounds like Sonic Youth, Slint and a load of other stuff (plus some of the punk)

^ Fair enough, I would say it has far more hooks/anthemic songs than any other album they have. Thats what hooks me.

Hey I like all their stuff give or take but I see Boney digging 'Long Distance Runner' or 'Forensic Scene' more than, say, the title track from 'Repeater'

I might be wrong

Stepped away for a while, whoops. Interesting discussion, always interesting to see what people expect about my reactions to bands.

@Johnny, yeah I have yet to get into Sonic Youth, haven't even heard Daydream Nation. Was always a bit scared away by how massive their discog is and always had the sneaking suspicion I might find them kind of boring.

Daydream Nation starts with such an all time classic that its hard for the rest of it to live up. I personally find it one of the most overrated albums ever, although its still pretty good. But some pundits put it as the greatest album of the 80s, and its not even close to that. I honestly like Goo better. Tighter songs, more swagger.

That's fair. I'll get to them one of these days. There's too much music...

Boney just listen to the song Teenage Riot by Sonic Youth sometime. Its their most seminal, and probably best track. Also, none of their other songs sound like IMO.

Red Medicine is my fave Fugazi.

Thanks for bumping this guys, decided to finally delve into Pavement. Enjoying both this and Slanted so far. This has a ton of b-sides and extras (49 track version), daunting actually, is it worth going through it all?

Filmore Jive is an incredible closer. Love this album already. There’s some interesting stuff in the ‘extras’ too.

I have the expanded version and the only tracks I remember from the bonus content are Raft and Strings of Nashville (which is beautifully and defs essential) - great album though, especially the bookends and Gold Soundz. I found it grew off me a little more than the others, but this is an indie template for all the right reasons
