Based on first listen:
I found myself rolling my eyes at a lot of the lyrics, the guitars were pretty typical for alternative/indie, and his voice sounded so tired like he was bored the entire album...
I don't get this album's high acclaim honestly.
Will check it at least 2 more times to see if it grows.

much truth

Yup. First 3 in particular are amazing, but they never put out bad stuff, albums and eps are all keepers.

Upon second listen: Silence Kid and Unfair were big standouts, I didn't like anything on the 2nd half still even if Range Life was kind of funny... and Cut Your Hair would be infectiously catchy if the lead singer didn't seem to be bored by it. Hit the Plane Down seemed like a last minute idea b-side or something...
I like it more than the 1st listen though

Keep on listening ars, this was a grower for me so maybe that hideous 2.5 rating will go away soon. But yeah, gold soundz is a masterpiece dude.

I just wish Stephen Malkmus sounded like he gave a fuck, it's like he's sabotaging his own band
|
| |
I don't really understand why you're making a big deal out of malkmus' vocals tbh... it's not much than different than j mascis i'd say, in a sense of having those trademark sleazy vocals, that's part of the appeal in em i guess.
