Not really. I mean, I prefer the vocals on the originals as they fit the atmosphere perfectly, but KD's vocals are an acquired taste. Mercyful Fate medley kills tho.

Imagine covering Helpless and leaving out the best part of the song.

The Mercyful fate cover is great

Indeed, it's the highlight of this album 1000%

Candidate for the best ever cover version of a song. We should talk more often about how amazing Metallica is as a covers band.

holy shit this might be the worst take in history, like ever, no offence. I mean, hitler's take on the jews is more reasonable than this take, no offence.

I don’t think that’s one of those things you can say no offense after

I honestly think Whiskey in the Jar kind of sucks.

This album is a special one for me, despite being purely covers it stayed in my CD player for a while back in the day.
The sheer amount of content/variety here makes it feel weighty, the new covers showcasing James' vocals at their best and some of the best production I've heard on a Metallica record.
In 1998 James wasn't barking like he used to, but during this period he was able to regain a little of the grit while mixing it with his much improved singing voice.
The guitars, bass and drums all sound great too with some nice seperation and clarity- the guitars sounding partucularly crunchy.
Look no further than 'Mercyful Fate' for proof Metallica still had a knack for heavy metal, the song/part choices made for this medley were incredible and the 11:10 running time flies by.
The 'Ronnie Rising' medley released in 2016 was also great if you haven't heard it.
The older stuff is fantastic and nice to have it all compiled here rather than split between various B-Sides and EPs. I have the standalone 'Garage Days Re-Revisted' release but having it here amongst some of my favourites 'Blitzkrieg' and 'So What' is brilliant.
Highly recommended!
Check out: 'Astronomy', 'Mercyful Fate', 'Sabbra Cadabra', 'The Small Hours', 'Blitzkrieg', 'So What' & 'Breadfan'.
