Damn, I love Pete from Chevelle. I think he has an awesome voice
Hmm... I will see if I can come up with anything. May have something else on my computer that could be similar to this. Not sure if I know of any vocalists that have the same vibe as TrustCo, tho. I always thought his clean vox were pretty unique

this band doesn't even touch Chevelle.

I always hear them referred to nu metal in most circles, by journalists, a lot of music critics, and most review sites. I guess they can all be wrong, but I dunno I think this is pretty distinct nu.
Anyway album still rules. Considering 5'ing.

I don't necessarily dislike this but it's so damn generic. I'm not sure what yall are hearing that I'm not

I totally get that. I got it around the time it was released and listened for a while but ended up growing tired of it for that reason
For the longest time, the only song I cared about from this was Downfall, but then I picked it back up again a few years back, just to see, and I dunno, I was loving it. Upped from 2.5ish-3 to a 4 and don't skip any songs

I'm an nu metal guy so I'm a sucker for the genre. I love funk inspired stuff, and nu metal combines that with metal, making an interesting sound that combines aggression and groove. This album in particular has post-hardcore influences, so its especially spicy to me. This type of sound is not only angry sounding, but thanks to the added "groove" it makes almost cocky/arrogant in its sound, like its saying "Oh yeah, we KNOW this slays". Its almost impossible not to groove along to it.
This album in particular uses an approach like Deftones Around the Fur where the riff makes the song feel like its riding on a wave, and you're along for the ride. Its this certain "flow" the song makes, eg on songs like Hover. Terrible analogy maybe but I dunno how else to describe it.
Another interesting aspect is this album is its pretty atmospheric. Guitar work creates a very numb/floating atmosphere that really helps you drift into the song. This atmosphere alone sets this apart from stuff like Trapt -- Headstrong, Disturbed, even Taproot. Hover, Finally, and Drop to Zero in particular are great examples. It for me creates this void, empty, but beautiful aquatic scene where I can feel myself drifting into the notes itself. Not to mention now, years later this is very nostalgic sounding.
The singer is the weakest part of the band, but his half whisper/sing thing is incredibly interesting and really sets him apart from other acts in the genre. Not to mention it compliments the atmospheric part and really builds upon it. Its like dreamy metal, but still aggressive.
Thats just my .02

The vocals were the main draw for me

What makes it generic for you?

I have never heard a vocalist match his tone with the chord progressions during a chorus as beautifully and consistently as this guy.

music is pretty typical 2000s hard alternative/post-grunge and the singer is just Chester Bennington trying to talk on Xbox Live without waking up his parents.

Anyone heard of their 41Down stuff? Something Perfect is super gorgeous. I prefer their Trustco sound more or less just because of stronger vocals but they have some hidden gems.

I know not what you speak of
By looking into that, I just found out about Amity Lane, too, which is pretty disappointing so far... bummer

Yeah idk about Amity, but their old band name 41Down has some good stuff, eg Something Perfect. Its more or less just old versions of their first two albums

Amity is basically another version of them (some same members including the vox) after Parallels, but also, like Parallels, is not very good. I only got 4 songs in and passed
Mkay, I will see what I can find on Youtube. Might be fun to hear some alt versions of stuff from this

RIP my 5 for this. This fell off slightly for me over time. Jammed it constantly in 2020.
