"Love the vocalist. I also don't feel like this band should be classified as nu-metal."
I really don't see how they wouldn't. Those riffs are very much nu-metal. I guess they're not overall distinctly nu?
And yeah, also the year these guys make a new record is the year HL3 is released and Mother 3 gets an official translation.

Like you mentioned in your previous post, I get more post-hardcore/grunge vibes from this rather than nu-metal.

Nu Metal kinda became a blanket term in the early/ mid 2000s, I always thought. I am not really even sure what it actually means but I can list off some random bands that supposedly are in the genre if I was asked
I blame Limp Bizkit and Korn

Yeah idk, when I think of nu-metal, I think of it's various gimmicks like rap vocals and turntables and "bouncy" syncopated riffs (Limp Bizkit - Break Stuff) which this band does not use.

Yeah, I think it got associated with groove as well, which is why I am pretty sure Incubus gets the tag from their earlier stuff, and is another thing I don't think of when listening to this

Nu metal doesn't necessarily need rap elements. Its signature groove is more of an indication. Groove metal has a different feel. I find nu riffs similar to post-hardcore ones a lot, unless I'm mistaken. LD 50 is certainly not a primarily nu metal album, but it is nonetheless present in their sound and I consider it one. TRUSTCo goes the same.

LD 50 always just sounded like a metalcore album to me, lol. Nu-metal is certainly tough to pin down

Out of curiosity, I read thru the wikipedia page on nu metal today, and I feel like I still don't really know anymore about it than I did before

I have also read a majority of that page and felt more confused than when I started.

Right?
Man, it seems like it could maybe 4 or 5 different genres sectioned out, but it just got all lumped into one thing with a jillion different bands under the umbrella

I thought an aspect of nu-metal was a moderately slower tempo too? But there was a lot of post grunge overlap back then too.

I haven't really looked into what post grunge actually is yet, but it is another thing that sounds like it should just be in with Hard Rock, but I dunno
One of the key aspects of Nu Metal, according to wikipedia, is the focus on more low/downtuned/groove oriented riffs rather than leads and guitar solos

This kind of music so much takes me back to games like Aggressive Inline and stuff

Listening to a few tracks from this right now
This thing actually has hooks for days lol

Ah, post-grunge. There's another headache trying to decipher.
"This thing actually has hooks for days lol"
That's what I love about this album. So consistently catchy.

This. Groove metal and even Metalcore uses some sort of guitar solo or alike usually. Nu metal riffs stick entirely to rhythm typically.

This band was a bit of a hidden gem. Downfall is still one of my favorite songs.

I hear a fair amount of lead guitar on this. Nothing overly complicated, but it is there on most tracks, even if it is a little buried in the mix on some of the songs
Other than Chevelle, TrustCO are one of my favorites that like employ the soft/heavy dynamic between verses and the chorus and whatnot

Been trying to find other bands that sound like this other than Chevelle (I don't care for their vocalist).
