makes a lot of sense in retrospect, like Set the Controls

Set the Controls is the only Floyd song in history to have all five of them playing together - although you can't really distinguish Gilmour's guitar from Syd's in that one unless you're some sort of genius

every other song on Saucerful is either just Gilmour (Let There Be More Light, Corporal Clegg, t/t and See-Saw) or just Syd (Remember a Day and Jugband)

kinda sad

yeah the Pompeii version is 10x better to me, but the album version has immense history to it. definitely the best song on that album although Jugband Blues has a special place in my heart

It Would Be So Nice isn't so bad. All of the early singles have their own merit.

I'm a sucker for Candy and a Currant Bun and Paintbox specifically though

All of them are amazing except It Would Be So Nice, which is clearly the worst song they ever wrote in their careers and borders on absolutely unlistenable

Paintbox is fantastic yeah, love Point Me at the Sky and ofc See Emily Play too

"throughout shows he was said to light a candle on his head, and enderneath the wax he'd place a few drops of Lucy so as it melted down his face, it would absorbed."

No, the story goes at one show he melted a bunch mandrax into brylcreem so it would melt down into this face during a show.

"

however, Syd's stability slowly fell off. Roger is quoted explaining how Syd would do things they still till this day cant decide if Syd's intentions were to fuck with the band, or his sanity was actually missing. things like writing a melody and having waters learn it, and when waters would show his progress Syd would claim that wasnt even close to what he wrote and play an entirely different melody, repeating this a few dozen times. another problem waters claimed was Syd would play the same chord repeatedly during a live show with no variation. the audience ate it up of course, but the band knew it wasn't actually what he wanted. this is when the band, namely Rogers, knew Syd's time in Floyd was coming to an end."

While he was losing touch with reality, and his ability to communicate effectively, he was certainly still displaying his emotions through his music. The story you are referring to here is when he "wrote" a song called "Have You Got It Yet?" which he brought to a rehersal with the band to teach it to them. The lyric at the end of the song simply said "have you got it yet"? After each time through the song he would change it slightly, throwing the band off, and he would keep singing, have you got it yet? Eventually the band realized that yes, Syd was just fucking with them in his odd way.

"he began to realize that this was more patronizing then it needed to be, so eventually decided to kick him out of Pink Floyd for good. "

Well no, the band collectively decided to stop picking him up for shows. Not just Roger.

"Now I dont remember when exactly Gilmour is brought on board, possibly right after Saucerful"

He was brought on after Christmas 1967, much before Saucerful was realized. David was very much a part of the creation of Saucerful. Syd is only on two of those songs on the album.

Sorry, just clearing up some of the misinformation there. :D

no worries mate like I said I just wanted to say something from memory about him. didnt mean to royally fuck up with all of that, really meant it to be more of my comparison between their music and what was going on with him and the band. and in regards to directly mentioning Waters rather than the band, their are a handful of interviews with Mason and Waters pre-meddle where they both said it was Waters who felt the need to adress the issues since he was closest to Syd and also the most irritated when it came to what he was doing for the band. mason and wright were more like "yeah sure its annoying, what are you gonna do about it"

"No, the story goes at one show he melted a bunch mandrax into brylcreem so it would melt down into this face during a show."

isn't there a quote from Rogers saying something like "this isnt true, Syd wouldnt waste good mandrax like that" and then he started laughing and goes on to say how much cid Syd could get his hands on. its in a book I have somewhere filled with different interviews. cause yes I've heard hundreds of different things he did with drugs
