Glad this got a review.
There's one phrase though in the opening paragraph that i honestly didn't like at all reading it......
It’s a shame that none of these people seem to be aware of this album because it could torture a majority of people that hear it at almost any volume.
Now for the vocals, Alan Tecchio's vocals are superb, it's just that power metal has been demonized here on Sputnik. Same goes for the high pitch vocals that some singers use in the aforementioned genre. I mean, what type of vocals would match this music?? Death? Black? Post-hardcore? Metalcore? Other?...
For the record, it was his fellow band mates that kept pushing Tecchio to sing sky-high all the time during the recording sessions, so it's not entirely Tecchio's fault the thing with the vocals ( i repeat i like them).
That's the reason Tecchio left the band after Control and Resistance.
One of the reasons, the band disbanded shortly after this, is because the remaining members couldn't get a singer to do even more extreme high pitch vocals than the ones Tecchio did for this one.

Same goes for the high pitch vocals that some singers use in the aforementioned genre. I mean, what type of vocals would match this music?? Death? Black? Post-hardcore? Metalcore? Other?… Even as far as power metal vocals go, these aren't the greatest. He is often off key, and they're just grating until you get used to them. I think something like Protest the Hero would work (but that obviously wasn't even an option during the time of this album). Also, that sentence refers to the general populace, the radio-listening soccer mom's and Miley Cyrus wannabe teens.
For the record, it was his fellow band mates that kept pushing Tecchio to sing sky-high all the time during the recording sessions, so it's not entirely Tecchio's fault the thing with the vocals ( i repeat i like them). Thanks for the incite, but I already had that in the review ;)
"The only positive I can give the guy is that in interviews he claims that the band forced him to sing well outside of his range in order to have the vocals as high as possible; which may be true since in Non-Fiction his vocals are much better."

i stopped reading the review, after i read the first paragraph, that's why i didn't see the positive point Tecchio received from you :-D
The thing with Tecchio's vocals being off-key, if it takes place, it is rare. I didn't notice anything because the whole record is "off-key" lol
Nevertheless, that first paragraph doesn't read very well, i don't know, perhaps it's just me :-)

It is just you ;) I started off on a negative for an album you like and then you didn't read all the positives later.

Got this over the weekend. Was lucky to get it new for 30 euros on amazon, before it went to 90. But this album is worth it anyway.

I have this on CD and Vinyl. It's awesome. I hope they actually follow through on Mathematics this time. Too bad they're without a vocalist again. They should see if the dude from Flotsam and Jetsam would do vocals for them, that would be awesome.

Yeah, can't wait for that album. I don't know if I would prefer Tecchio or McMaster on it. Maybe they're even searching for something different. But the title definitely sounds promising.

Tecchio left the band again after recording a single song with them (it's for sale on Amazon, it's not bad). Jason pulled out early on, that's why Tecchio was supposed to step in, but now he's gone too. It has to be someone new now.

The Size at Matter was great. Very catchy and maybe a little formularic, but still good. I hope they get a high-pitched vocalist ala Tecchio on this.

I'm hoping for someone that can do both high and aggressive... someone like Flotsam or Nevermore's vocalists.

Yeah, would be great with a versatile singer.
Haven't heard of Flotsam. What kind of music are they playing?

Flotsam and Jetsam? Jason Newsted's original band. They played thrash in the eighties and late ninties. Metal in the early nineties and now they're back to something in between.
We're streaming songs from Flotsam and Jetsam's new album, check them out:

"Legendary album, scarily influential, surprisingly unlistenable thanks to commander douchebag on vocals."

True. I hope they come back with some versatile vocalist and not a clone of one of their previous singers.

I wouldn't want to, cuz I'd know better. The dude sounds good on the "Size of Matter," but his performance on this album makes the songs damn near unlistenable.
