By the way, the only reason that this album is not a 5 are the atonal, over-the-top "solos" that Levasseur puts out here and there.

Yeah, listening back, the solos aren't even that out there. They're kind of like slightly off neoclassical shred; he's playing scales and everything that harmonize with the riff a lot of the time. There are plenty of examples of both uglier and prettier solos in death metal. I've always thought that tonal centers were completely optional with DM, anyways.
