Mike, you seem to deliberately target bands with loyal followings in order to give albums negative ratings.

I don't feel Mike is that spiteful or immature; just looking at the quality of his reviews alone says something.
Well written review once again. I only enjoy the first two albums BS put out. This album was weak!

...Mike has just reviewed some of the worse albums in those respective bands' discographies.

Apart from Deliverance, which I like, these albums do suck.

A couple of years ago I saw a live performance of The Pretenders, the best song performed was "Changes"..

A song that is often covered, and a true Sabbath Classic song.

"Wheels of confusion" is another very good song in which Sabbath starts to experiment with its own sound; together with the conventional triplet "Tomorrows dream", "Snowblind" and "Supernaut" half of the album has the vintage&classic Sabbath stamp on it. The other half is less impressive but still passable.

I thought about getting this, and decided to get Mob Rules instead. Looks like I might the right choice.

This album has only 3 good songs. Good review.

I wouldn't exactly call this album "very poor", and i don't think you gave enough points to justify it, but good review nonetheless.

also, Deep Purple "dull 70s rock"?!?! seriously?!?!?

"A stale, meek offering from a tired worn out band"?? You wrote all those paragraphs to make that conclusion? You wasted my time in reading this review. Listen again, man. The only thing I agree on is what you said about Ozzy. Osbourne is truly one of the luckiest people on the planet.

hey mikesn, take the album for the album. Vol 4 , it is what it is. It's not the debut, or paranoid or master of reality. I think you just don't like the album, which is fine. But, comparing to the others is ridiculous. As far as "How dare I insult the metal Gods Black Sabbath" What does that mean? I don't care who you like musically, just don't be so short-sighted in your reviews.

How could you even mention Avenged Sevenfold in a Black Sabbath review? How could you give this one a 1.5? Sorry, but Vol.4 is amazing. SUPERNAUT FOR GOD'S SAKES. Uninspired? BLASPHEMY! Mob Rules better than this? Go away.

Way off base on this one, screams personal bias

And like someone said before, I don't think anyone can really like Dio-era Sabbath better...I think it's some misguided hate towards Ozzy that propels these people to lie in such horrendous ways. This Message Edited On 01.13.09This Message Edited On 01.13.09

Heaven and Hell is a Dio Sabbath album and personally I believe that it is their second best album, after Paranoid. In my Top 5 Sabbath albums, four are Ozzy records though.

I disagree with your review. All of the riffs on this album are great. You fail to see how great the last 2 minutes of Wheels of Confusion, my favorite Black Sabbath song, are; don't pay attention to the guitar around the song's finish, but listen, rather, to the other instruments. Wheels of Confusion also has some great guitar solos earlier on.

And Changes is something different from Black Sabbath's norm in a different way than Planet Caravan (even though PC is better, in my opinion) . You should appreciate the variety it gives the album instead of just disregarding it as a weak track. I used to dislike it too, but give it a few listens and it will grow on you. I have the same to say about FX.

I can see why you might dis Cornucopia and Tomorrow's Dream. They aren't exactly my favorites, but I don't think they are bad.

A few weak spots, but there are still some horse-bludgeoning riffs here, folks.

Naysayers be damned!
