Amazing, the funkiest, most joyful album out there.

The popularity here for this album is very low relative to quality. I know sputnik is slightly metal biased (I am too) but this should be on the thousands of votes already. Worth the hype.

The flute solo in Another Star is the best thing.

hmmm my fave on here is either "I Wish" or "Ordinary Pain"

Minnie Riperton's parts on both songs are so damn good

Yeah, never cared for that one tbh, the dissonance between the subject matter and the music really rubs me the wrong way.

Aw I love Village Ghetto Land

The dissonance between the music and lyrics is intentional

The music presents it as a fantastical place, while the lyrics give you the crushing reality that it's a sad and broken place, it's almost like a sarcastic take on a vacation advertisement

it's meant to poke fun at how well off people look at and romanticize poverty without really having any experience in it

The closing line of the final verse is the biggest tell:

"Now some folks say that we should be

Glad for what we have

Tell me would you be happy in Village Ghetto Land?"

Hmm I can see that, though even then I just don't really like the arrangement on its own, if it was less saccharine and more bouncy I would probably enjoy it a lot more. Imo it would be a better contrast if the music was more upbeat and fun and the lyrics undercut that by showing the harsh, very un-fun realities of poverty, instead of just pairing depressing lyrics with those sickly-sweet strings that don't fit tonally.

Fair enough

Worst for me is "Ngiculela - Es Una Historia - I Am Singing" cuz it's a mishmash of 3 songs that don't really work independently, so it seems like he put them together lazily

Awwww that one might be my fav. I don't know what instrument that he uses in it is called but it's so pretty and the chorus is fantastic to me.
