Eh, it's alright. Anyway, yeah, late 1700s/early 1800s. But classical starts before the 1000s, the most popular composer of the early period, Hildegard von Bingen, is like 1100s, and the composer I mentioned is from the 1300s... So, yeah, not really close. Oh, uh, if you're going to start to listen to more classical for some reason I think you should start with the end and finish with the beginning.

I think this has plenty of memorable/accessible moments personally. The intro/outro of Syeeda's Song Flute for instance, love it. I do however understand that what comes sandwiched between can be off-putting for some listeners. I kind of agree myself sometimes, as I'm more interested in the "cathedral built by the architect" rather than improvisation.

Listening to Herbie Hancock for the first time, so I think I found my new jazz obsession

It’s rather amusing how much Coltrane dabs on his other sax contemporaries on these early records

I think I may just have to give up hope that I'll ever "get" jazz

"that's the thing, it just sounds like tinny drums and some dude wailing on a saxophone, occasionally switching to classical piano. there's hardly any melody or variety on offer. sure some of these guys are crazy good at these instruments but that's just what it sounds like to me: someone playing an instrument, with some accompany drums and piano. maybe it's just not my thing. i like albums like black saint because the songs actually have some structure. the first song, for example, goes through movements and has a wicked outro. this doesn't seem to have any highs or lows from what i can gather. i've had it on for 20 minutes now and i can't distinguish a single moment from the next. "

Can totally relate to this. Not blaming the music, it's definitely me though

Coltraaaaane!

Have you tried "easier" ones like Brubeck - Take Five or Miles Davis - Kind Of Blue Trophy?

Or maybe vocal jazz?

Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday?

I haven't. Maybe I should start with Kind of Blue?
