I used to feel the same way... Now I realize how overrated Deloused really was. It's far from bad, but only half of the tracks are ace, and the others are just kinda average. Frances, while undoubtably pretentious, is probably the better album overall, just because of the sheer scale and ambition, even if it's 20 or so minutes too long.

This was a good review, and I can't see my opinion of this album being too different then yours (although I haven't heard it yet).... so I voted too, because not only is it a good review, but also to counter the people who obviously can't read: "Was this Review Well Written?" ... and negged simply because they disagree. This Message Edited On 01.24.08

Before I even finish reading this
Underneath almost every single song, you can hear what essentially sounds like Omar scratching his guitar with a nail file while filtering it through a vacuum and 10 random effect pedals.
I am just so perplexed as to how you are just noticing this, 4 albums into their career. This sorta shit has been in like every mars volta song sans ballads ever.

As much as the whole random effects things is prevalent in most TMV albums (Frances less so, but still), here they seem to have cranked it to a level where it actually hinders some level of enjoyment.
Intransit, I can always rely on your posts brightening up my day. XD

well you could say you give it a 2.5 based on those mars volta tendencies being pretty half-assed and shit

Haha it always seems that when I listen to the Deftones again someone brings it up in a random ass comment...

Review is an attention whore, sorry, but I'm not convinced. I haven't heard the album yet either but your writing feels like you're trying to get us to trust you about really unjustified, opinionated claims. Also, those claims are often in the form of not so very amusing metaphors.
Stating that some tracks are so disappointing that you do not wish to mention them is ridiculous. You're supposed to be reviewing the entire album, so describe it all, even if you don't have to do a track by track. I don't know where this 2.5 stems from and the more I read the more I lacked conviction.
"Completely terrible" absolutely did it for me, compelling me to write this comment.
btw I didn't neg but this review eats it.This Message Edited On 01.25.08

You're a gay homo fagot!!!!! But really I don't know about this album I've only heard a few songs off of it...but if it's following in the vein of Amputechture I probably won't be overly excited.
They started off right with De-Loused and Frances The Mute which although they were still chaotic you could always find a song underneath everything. But with Amputechture it got harder to find any structure...it became like a jam session from hell...which although still enjoyable to listen from time to time the album has never gotten repeated listens like Frances The Mute (my favourite Mars Volta album) did.
