apparently the only actual gangster in this group was MC Ren who was actually involved in criminal activities and was even in a Crip gang before.

ren and eazy were both kelly park compton crips. the rest werent in a gang yeah
|
| |
more accurate to say the rest were even straight up actors basically not ghetto in any way whatsoever. especially dr. dre.
|
| |
that being said though an album with just Dre and Ren would have been tight.

yeahhhh its a real shame that didnt happen cause his first projects are pretty good but sound really dated. his best album is 1999's ruthless for life. really great production and good features on that one. too bad he didnt drop for another 10 years after that one. i even like that comeback album its just some cool gangsta rap. even his stuff from the last couple years ranges from decent to pretty good iirc. would be dope to hear a new album from him. hopefully he might have a feature on the mt westmore or new dr dre album but my hopes arent that high lol

The turning point for rap music. From here, intelligent (whether meaningful, humorous, or both) lyrics were increasingly abandoned in favor of
-mindless nihlism
-the wholehearted embrace of violence; not necessarily as a reality for the urban population (_Illmatic_ would perfect that), but as a fashion statement, and even more importantly, a way to gain publicity, and in turn, sell records
-the wholehearted embrace of misogyny
But that's not even what makes _SOC_ a bad album. The simple truth is that the songs just kinda suck. Eazy E delivers one of the worst performances by any rapper, ever, on this album. This is just one pathetic example, one that he matches at many points on the album:
"_So what about the bitch who got shot? Fuck her! I don't give a damn about a bitch, what do you think I am, a sucker??_" MC Ren isn't much better, and while Dr. Dre's clumsy flow doesn't make a mockery of rap music as Eazy did, it somehow manages to bring the songs down even further than they would be without his verses.
i'll finish later

rap has gone in and out of retardation since it's beginning. beginning was mostly fun- but also conscious stuff about the street life, then it went into just mindless glorification of violence and womanizing shite, then it carried on like that forever it seems, even into the mid 2000's and then it was conscious again, with some artists reaching mainstream success, but now it's pretty retarded again with mumble rap and 'pop-rap' dominating everything now, and ''gangster rap'' is basically dead now.
