The whole point is the originality though. It was an original idea. You get the full effect if you listen to the Black Album all the way through too. They sound completely different excluding the words. Listen to a few tracks and you'll understand the power of sampling.
Yes, let's just take other peoples work, mix it all up, and call it a new album.

So maybe it sounds good, or maybe you think it sounds good, but being completely unoriginal I'd say it should automatically get one or two points knocked off.
It's actually pretty original. The drums, guitar chords, and stuff come from sampling of the albums, but come on, there is no such thing as an "original" chord. The fact that he put this together is pretty impressive. If you ask me it is more original than the same pop/rock/metal that I always hear that is standard structure. That being said, it isn't that great, but I am not going to "knock off" points because of the way it was made.

I really don't like The Black Album that much but this I can appreciate.

Maybe you've been listening to shi.tty mainstream metal that uses verse/chorus structures :p

I prefer the other Grey Album (Beatles vs. Metallica), but that's because i don't enjoy rap as much as metal. And I find it odd that Lars vocally supported and helped fight for the protection of the guys who did that album

You are probably right. He became a household name for all the wrong reasons during that lawsuit.

The one song that really stands out to me is Moment of Clarity which feels so natural, so meant to be, so delicious. Some of the songs feel a bit undefined, as if they're puzzles with one or two pieces in the wrong place.

There are a few moments where it just all works, but a lot of moments where you say "interesting album, but nothing special."

Hey does anybody here know what beatles sample was used for "Threat" the only song that actually wasnt on the grey album? Ive heard every song on the white album and cant figure out what sample dangermouse used. It sounds so good and fits perfectly, better than the original black album version if you ask me.

everyone should hear this album. Not necessarily because of its quality, but because it's so innovative and cool.
