JohnnyCrash Aug 23 20020.50 stars+2When someone only rates an album for 5 stars because the singer is hot looking, you know we have a problem with the arts in America. The songs on this album are all simplistic (most of them done in blues chord progressions) and are absolutely twaddle. I retch when I hear the double-standard laced "Any Man Of Mine" and if I hear "Still The One" another time, I will slit my wrists. It's a relief to know that this woman faded into obscurity after her fifteen minutes of fame was up. Now the session musicians have to find other work.

Counterpoint: This was a pop album at the tail end of MTV's peak. What kind of chord progressions were you expecting? All you needed was a pretty face, some decent hooks, and some decent production, and thanks to Shania, her parents, and husband, this album had all of that and then some.

Also, she hardly faded into obscurity. Every album since this one has topped the US, UK, and Canadian charts and gone platinum.

It's a common malaise. Bjork in inappropriate settings.

One of the few 'Country' artists worth listening to.

I hate the genre overall, but at least Mrs Twain is beautiful, and has a good singing voice. The songs are catchy, but, meh.

i feel ya. country is p samesies when it comes to the few branches of it i.e outlaw/cowboy/nashville etc, and the eras are p cut and dry imo

i gotta soft spot for the 90s pop country. think it gets too much heat for how good it actually is
