Whenever people talk about the greatest guitarists of all time but don't mention Zappa, I cringe hard. In terms of innovation and technical prowess he shits on the likes of Jimmy Page and Hendrix. It is what it is.

I strongly stand by that statement. Just listen to Willie the pimp. Who even did anything that awesome with a guitar in 1969?

Frank Zappa from the band Mothers of Invention.

I respect his guitar playing. His improv is neat, but I respect him more as a composer than a guitarist.

To say he is a more innovative guitarist than Hendrix is silly. I cant think of a rock musician more innovative + influential on their instrument as Hendrix.

As far as I know, Frank Zappa introduced Jimi Hendrix to the Wah-Wah pedal. So 1:0 for Zappa.

Hendrix was more influential only for the fact that he was more commercial.

Hendrix is far from commercial. The BBC tried to destroy footage of his playing at the time, something only him and Albert Ayler can be proud of.

Edit: they banned him at the time of his death.

Also neither of them were the first to use the Wah-Wah pedal. And even if they did, that is such a petit innovation to commend them for.

I know it's a cheap shot, but Chuck Berry?

A lot more people knew Hendrix when he was alive than Zappa and today it's not even a comparison as there a few musicians with a name as big as Hendrix. I like Hendrix, don't get the wrong idea because i used some harsh language.

I'd agree that I enjoy Zappa's guitar work more than Hendrix's even though I like both, but Hendrix is probably more influential

"I know it's a cheap shot, but Chuck Berry?" Sure, that would be my 2nd take.
