They started with a very hardcore-influenced sound, in fact they were essentially crust punk, but I’ve never heard them described as ‘post-hxc’ before. It doesn’t really work as a descriptor for the simple reason that the hxc part of their repertoire never left them. A lot of post-metal is like that tho, guess you could say ‘these guys have hxc roots, now they ain’t so post-hxc right?’

That's actually a really apt way of putting it. Their hardcore roots really just got wrapped up into their post-metal sound. They were a hardcore band, and those influences are still there. But none of their music fits a post-hardcore descriptor.
