Out of all the Enslaved’s I have already checked, I settled on this for my first ‘revisit’. Good start, as this is better than I remember (which was very little to be honest). I dig the fact that despite the odd quirky moment befitting of their progressive nature, the atmosphere is mostly unrelenting.
I’m giving it a modest bump.

Come on now. One of the great things about this album is the variety.
I put this on to sleep to a few times this week and it really does have a particular, hypnotic atmosphere to it (just listen to the way Isa flows in to the brilliant intro of Ascension!). Again, Ivar’s guitar work is fantastic on this.

Prog has been doing it since the beginning of time and is usually lauded for such things. No-one wants to hear a bunch of seemingly disconnected parts

Hearing it live was really cool, don't really care that much for the track on the record though. But tbh, I think this and Below the Lights are growers, haven't paid that much to them. Haven't paid proper attention to most Enslaved records to be honest, although they are now in my top 20 most listened artists all time lol
