I've always thought that a lot of metal users go out of their way to bring up undiscovered bands to make themselves seem so ****ing rad, and in the process stick their nose up in the air at any other users discoveries because they didn't find it themselves. "Oh **** this band you found, mine is so much more kvlt!!!"

Totally. I'm a firm believer that a lot of unknown bands are that way for a reason, but it doesn't mean there arent exceptions. But the fact is that the main metal community on the review site is completely ignorant to a lot of big releases in black and death metal because they're relatively bullheaded towards a certain scene and sound. I'm not saying they wont check more out, I'm saying they really only seem to acknowledge one side of things.

That's why I reviewed this, and that's why I'm going to do a few more reviews. This Message Edited On 12.07.07

Hate to say it but damn. South is sorta spot on and you got it on the ball cocaine. Which is why, I've missed out on the new Amorphis which technically is what i'm into.

Exactly.

I remember you sent me this a few months back. Like I said, this was pretty disgusting stuff, just near the end I kinda got bored of it. Still, its refreshing to hear black metal that doesn't try and be all epic and atmospheric and boring as fuck. This is brutal as hell, and if you know of any more black metal like this (same production, please...I hate that shitty black metal production), please do tell. I used to be all anal about solos but it doesn't bother me too much anymore so yeah.

It really is nasty, straight forward shit. All I can recommend to you offhand would be Root's Hell Symphony. It's not too underproduced, but it is relatively old (1991). You also might not be a fan of the vocals.

There's more like this out there I'm just not in much of a mindset to think of any, apparently.

You may like Seviss - ...Et Pleure Le Bâtard. Vocals are really, really weird, but musically it's pretty similar to this. It's way more underproduced though, it basically sounds like it was recorded in a garage. You can hear everything nicely though. This Message Edited On 12.07.07

That's not always the issue. In my case, it's usually because I unfortunately do not hear about the bands in the first place. So I commend you on what you're doing. (That's the main reason I joined sputnik, wider exposure to music).
I might get this album, but I'm still on a doom binge and don't really feel like black metal. Very well-written review though.

Really? Here I was thinking I was reviewing some kvlt stuff no one had heard of because I added them into the database

haha well your Crimson review turned me on to Edge of Sanity and probably a few other people. :thumb:

@Tyler
yeah most staff reviews are kind of uninteresting, your reviews are just about the only ones i care to read by the staff since you do a lot of metal, and mostly somewhat unknown stuff like this.

Good review, but I'm one of those metalhead bastards that can't stand BM.

I really do prefer symphomelobullshit.

You have been on a Black Metal role lately with your reviews. These guys sound worthy of my time because of this line,

Megiddo nonetheless put their focus exclusively on heralding the finer days of black metal. The music, not the image.
I will look them up on myspace (even though thats contridicting your thoughts on myspace's effect on BM hahahaha). Excellent review! This Message Edited On 12.09.07

Nah my thoughts on Myspace's effect on black metal was that it allowed so many useless acts to saturate the market and worsen it's overall quality. Myspace is great for finding new bands.

Myspace is definitely another tool I use to check out new bands (since I never download!).

After reading your conversation with SOH above, I'm going to be humble and say I am one of these ignorant metal heads who comes to this website to discover new metal bands that stretch far outside the realm of more popular releases. I owe a thanks to you and a few other people on this sight for opening up my eyes to bands like these.

I've managed to hear one song from this .One ******* song. That the song was seriously magnificent is scant consolation.

^^^ I agree. Band is pretty sick, unfortunately I don't catch up enough on B.M to find any other quality bands in the genre. You know any other worthwile bands to check out in the genre Cocaine? Synth free.

I'm quite open-minded when it comes to metal. If someone (usually Cocaine, south, Crysis, Balls, Crimson, reznor, etc) writes a review and makes an album sound like it's worth my time, there's a 95% chance I'll check it out (regardless of genre, sub genre, etc).

And most of the "unknown" metal bands I have found were found while looking for something else (while on Metal Storm or blog searching). The best bands are usually the ones you didn't intend to look for.

The description in the review seems to fit a "niche" that i want to explore. Im taking notes about this band.

I wonder why more people haven't checked this out? Clearly it's great black metal and there are more than few fans of the genre here. I've also put this on several lists so i'd be thinking Crysis, Crimson, Hawks, etc would be all over this.
