Gonna have to say I like this a bit more than The Stench of Redemption now and like it way more than the self-titled.

The best death metal album. The production is excellent. The drums are non-stop pounding. The bass has a mind of its own. The guitars attack relentlessly. The vocals are straight out of the 9 Hells. This album owns so fucking hard it almost makes me believe that Satan exists.

It's beyond good. This shit is perfect.
|
| |
I like the weird vocal effects on the first, even though most don't like them. It was the first album I heard by them, so I will always enjoy it. The bass isn't as audible in it, though, and the production is a bit lower than this one. What I like about this album is the ferocity and intensity of it. I know you like Reign in Blood, but to me this album is everything Reign in Blood wishes it was.

| |
why is this being compared to reign in blood, they are absolutely not trying to do the same thing. at all.

^seconded. I guess because they're both under 30 minutes? Might as well compare Gorgoroth's 'Antichrist' while we're at it.
|
| |
Slayer's Reign in Blood sounds to me like they were trying to make the fastest, most ferocious album straight out of the flames of hell. That's the same feeling I get from Legion, only I think it's better. Better vocals, better bass, better guitars, better drums.
|
| |
Slayer's Reign in Blood was influential in the development of death metal. Gorgoroth doesn't even sound anything like Reign in Blood or Legion.

Gorgoroth doesn't even sound anything like Reign in Blood or Legion.
that's the joke
|
| |
I know that was the joke, rasputin. I was trying to point out that the joke is stretching things a bit. You know what, I'm just going to take back what I said, because there is no winning with you guys.
|
| |
yes, stretching things a bit was the point. because reign in blood and legion are not comparable. the associations you're making between the two are based around them both being 'fast' and 'evil'.
it's fast as all fuck man it's like slayer but it's aggressive too man classic 5/5
|

Lol. Not a bad joke, dude. Like I said man, I give. You technical wizards and genre sticklers will come out from under the bridge and eat my ass alive if I make a wrong move - like attempting to compare Reign in Blood to early death metal.
Answer me this, though. Possessed - Seven Churches. What genre is this?
|
| |
death/thrash or proto-death
how you gonna act
|
| |
Cool, thanks. Makes more sense to me. I've seen it mentioned as certifiable death metal so many times. I'm not a musician so I can't pinpoint key elements in an album and tell what the influence was or exactly what genre something is.
|
| |
Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness has a lot of thrash elements, does it not?
|
| |
My point is a lot of early death has thrash roots in it, and a lot of late 80's early 90's thrash has death elements. A musician could better differentiate which elements are thrash or death and which aren't. I am not, so I do the best I can.
Reign in Blood to me is a thrash album but the evil, gore, brutality, satanic overtones, and speed of it foreshadow the direction death metal would take in the next 5 years.
