Uhh... The Art Of Subconcious Illusion, Turn The Other Way, etc.
But I guess you're right, Syn barely shreds on that album, how gay.

If you're complaining about the guitars on this release and the song structures, don't blame the guitarists. The Rev and Shadows (Dear God, drop those names!!!) wrote most of the songs. I'm glad someone finally wrote a middle of the road review, although I fail to see how "Dear God" is gay. It's not that great of a song, but it's no "Ballad of a Thin Man".

I agree with whoever said it felt lazy. IT really does just feel like it could have been a phenomenal album if they just went the extra yard. I don't know if they rushed it to get it out at Halloween of what, but it really feels just..incomplete, especially considering there are only 10 songs.

The lyrics are overly predictable and cheesy for the most part, and Shadows' vocals still aren't what they were on WtF. They made it clear that they wanted to write a catchy, experimental album and they did. I really didn't like "Gunslinger" or "Scream" the first time i heard them, but they've really grown on me. I really don't know how to compare it to their other albums though, seeing as that it had a completely different objective.

I just hope they can combine the elements of all 3 (StST is a waste of time and money) albums to make a really great record next time. Oh well. But you're definately right, it could have been alot worse.

No wonder it's so much better than any of their other albums. I'm sorry, but Synyster Gates is a wanky guitarist with no real skill as a songwriter.

No, STST sucked. Turn The Other Way, Warmness, Darkness, To End The Rapture.

STST was decent. Some of the songs on there sounded like a bad experiment with pop punk and metalcore, but for the most part it had some catchy breakdowns and it was a good moshable album on a whole. CoE was great, and experimental. Cheesy, yes. But so many of the greats could be considered cheesy. Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Queensryche, Black Sabbath... I mean, metal is practically built on being over the top and cheesy. So cheesy isn't bad, unless you take it to the level of Dragonforce, Sonata Arctica, or some other lame third rate power metal band. At that point it just becomes far too much.

I personally thought StST was better than WtF, if you ignore the generic metalcore parts from both albums

stst is a very good album. It was just a young band fucking around. Because of that, it is awesome.

hell yeah man...but in WtF is the first album with Synyster in it i think..so it was way better than StST n that sense..but without criticizing their lyrics...wich may or may not b liked by some people..they still do crank out some pretty good music..

better than the other albums???

waking the fallen dominated it in every aspect

especially in the fact taht Syn was with them and provided some amount of skill.

because back then, Zacky wasnt a very good guitarist

and could only play riffs

wheres a band to go without a guitarist who can play melodies and solos??

you're totally right dude. Because rock/metal NEEDS guitar solos to make it worth listening to. otherwise it's just garbage. I mean just listen to the Beatles. They barely ever solo. what trash.

hahaha, I forgot to mention StST in my review, sorry... my bad... well, StST was recorded when A7X members were 18 years old, and it´s a cool effort, but obviously the band took another direction and grew a lot in Waking the Fallen (their best album) and I even liked StST more than their self-titled.

Changed the rating from a 3 to a 2.5. I don't like it, but I can't hate it either. A7X went from being one of my favorite bands to one of my guilty pleasures. Still Waking the Fallen has a lot of sentimental value to me, reminds me of great times.
