Best Katatonia imo. Renkse's growls have literally zero technique to them; he's just shrieking and howling until his throat starts to bleed, which results in what is one of the most tortured and agonizing vocal performances in the genre imo. Their sense of melody on this album is also quite unique in doom. I think some of the stuff they did later on is great (Viva Emptiness for instance is fantastic) and Brave Murder Day is pretty much on par with this, but Dance of December Souls is the album that has crept inside my head the most
