No offence taken, ALA. There are a ton of albums out there with shitty average ratings, though. I think a lot of people just write this band off as a DT clone and don't give their stuff a proper chance. Chimera and The Immunity Zone are both ace albums, and they're fairly unique too.

Well this album definitely isn't unique. Uninspired everything.

I disagree about this album, but I can understand why someone would hate it. The vocals are garbage, and the songwriting isn't all that original. I like the guitar work a lot here though.

ALA what prog metal have you heard, exactly? There's a lot of shit that you have to dig through to find the good albums, but there's a lot of good stuff out there.

It's just the definition of wankery to me, without the good songwriting of Dream Theater.

Ah, so you've really only scratched the surface. :P Opeth is the only one of those I jam regularly anymore, too, though I still like DT and Symphony X fine. Do yourself a favour and check out Fates Warning's Parallels, Queensrÿche's Operation: Mindcrime, and Pain of Salvation's Remedy Lane.

Have you heard The Hunter? That's a great album, amazingly produced and the songwriting is very straightforward by their standards.

Yea the only boring Opeth is Pale Communion really

Journey Of Polyspheric Experience's first half is fucking amazing
|

I thought this was good, not great though. It picks up a lot during the second half, and the title track is definitely the standout for me.

The vocals are rather shitty but I think this was pretty good.

Those damn vocals! Ick
