I just cant shake the feeling that this was actually a pretty immature album that spawned a genre thats infinitely better

A friend of mine sent me a video of them rehearsing captain and they were just a bunch of kids not even my age just doing whatever they felt like doing musically and some of it worked and some of it didnt

the fact that a bunch of immature teenagers could create something so great is pretty amazing

Nah I get subjectivity of opinions and shit but I feel like this is so much less refined than any other post rock album and no one seems to ever acknowledge that.

Its interesting in a way since imo theres too many bands like EITS that are refined to the point of being really boring to me but its still odd since this is clearly no () or Laughing Stock in terms of arrangements.

Fuck arrangements, noodling and claptrap. Strip it down to the bare bones and what do you have?

This isnt post-rock at all. Some post-rock bands just took influence from the guitar textures

Yeah it's just the album that sparked the genre. There was nothing like it when it was released and its atmosphere and sound is surprisingly difficult to copy. The teenagers were experimenting, they wanted to do something different and they did. Classic.

The 33 1/3 book on this album is worth a read for anyone interested in the band.
