This was the perfect companion on a rainy walk to class this morning.

Fuck it, it's a 5.

Album had to grow on me a lot. At first I found it good but too limp and sadsack. Now I realize that it's perfectly limp and sadsack. I've given in, become a softie. These guys probably didn't know anything about real life at the time (but who am I kidding, what do I know myself) but they touched on something special here. Some of the most beautiful guitar sounds I've ever heard are on this.

haha, thanks man. I think hearing a lot more gaze has also helped me appreciate this more and I've just grown to love the style even more in general. I'm really feeling the gaze love today, I also just bumped Swirlies - They Spend Their Wild Youthful Days... to a 5 (I think I even like that album a tad more than this too)

One day certainly not now or the near future but one day you’ll appreciate a bit of metal bone I can sense it.

I've been thinking the same thing actually haha, shoegaze has led me to some metal-esque acts and I'm learning to enjoy those as well. I'll probably never enjoy hard-rock metal or cheesy metal but I could see myself enjoying some of the less wanky and more genuinely dark styles.

As long as you know what you like and can see through the fakery every genre, no matter what it is has amazing stuff. I’ve found my self time and time again saying well I never thought I’d like such and such but I definitely draw a line at so and so. Give it a few years and some obscure path will lead to so and so and it blows me mind.

That's true, I do figure every genre has its gems, it's just a question of how many there are haha

Looks like i need to spend more time with those swirlies' albums. I've jammed both of their early releases once or twice, but haven't revisited them in ages

this definitely has some top tier guitar sounds though. 40 days & Machine Gun always hit me hard

Swirlies scratch a very different itch than most gaze I've heard, their style is much more playful and dynamic and indie influenced but I love it, they also took a while to grow though (I gave They Spent Their Wild Youthful Days... a 2.5 at first but something kept me coming back)

Never grow tired of this album. Just pure bliss. I would probably call it my favorite of all time and not regret that statement. God knows how many times I’ve heard this album and it sounds just as lovely each time.

“I think hearing a lot more gaze has also helped me appreciate this more and I've just grown to love the style even more in general”

Shoegaze is the best genre ever. I’ve had a fascination with it even back when I lumped it altogether as just British pop/rock, but I really began my swirl into it after Deafheaven’s Sunbather. It’s funny a lot called Sunbather a stepping stone into black metal, but it was really my spark into shoegaze. I haven’t looked back since. I got way more out of it in the shoegaze department than I did metal. Still one of the most beautiful albums I’ve ever heard. Made me feel so engulfed in beautiful layers of sound and euphoria. I’m so glad it led me down this crazy rabbit hole I’d probably never venture down otherwise. There is truly nothing like this type of music. I’ve become so passionate about it. I wish folks could feel it the way I do. It’s incredible.

Boney, I think you should listen to Ninth Paradise and The Daysleepers. They both kinda rekindle this sound. They’re overlooked but very very good.
