If you don’t like his voice then yeah you’re fucked. If you don’t like the music just try other waits albums

Fair, it’s grating by design a lot of the time

my friend charlie inevitably every month comes to whatever apartment we're hanging out at and forces on rain dogs and gives a canned speech about how "this isn't tom acting weird THIS IS HOW HE REALLY IS!!!" and I love it every time

It's admittedly quite cool, aye. I don't know if I prefer this to Swordfishtrombones yet, but perhaps I will eventually.

This is really growing on me. It's funny how catchy some of these melodies are, despite the odd accompanying aesthetic and of course, the idiosyncratic vocals. Intrigued to see what other parts of his discog have to offer

He's a really solid songwriter--I agree that the aesthetic adds a bunch of "distracting" (but funny and ultimately cool) elements, but his mix of blues and, uh, "pop"? where the songs seem anchored in blues progressions but are a touch more complex than usual, is really refined songwriting-wise.

Yeah, this is a major hit. I'm grateful to have finally delved into the world of Waits. Love some of the quirky instrumentation. Excited to see what else the guy has up his sleeve
I have my eye on Bone Machine, that post-industrial tag (RYM) intrigues me especially
I did peek his debut also for 'context' and it was sometimes cool, but didn't impress me in the same way. Very much enjoyed Swordfish too

| |
Yeah I'm not listening to Waits often but I have a huge appreciation for his music, and its all so diverse and interesting. Love this album but I think I can name two or three I like more. Get ready for Bone Machine, demon. Wild ride
