They played 5 things off this, which was rad.

Not a single song from The Gallery? Blasphemy!

Oldest one was "ThereIn".

This is probably their best modern album. So many great riffs and trems and Particle Storm is one of the most atmospheric tracks they’ve done

Best yeah.

I love both of those albums but I think this is way better.

Yeah probably because this was their last album before the keyboards took hold, so it has their best balance of m/ and atmospherics (by quite a margin tbh).

Completely agree Jac.

I mean I never looked at them as a trilogy lol.

This has more blast beats than any other DT album m/

I've also always seen those three as a trilogy. Damage Done was where they really found their footing with their post-Mind's I stylistic shift and they refined it on Character and Fiction.

Not seeing it lol, just always seen them as them continuing to progress

this is definitely part three in the epic riffs trilogy

I could also definitely see the argument for their discography being split up into a series of trilogies based on the progression of their sound, though. Specifically Skydancer-Gallery-Mind's I, Haven-Projecter-Damage Done, Character-Fiction-We Are the Void, and Construct-Atoma-whatever comes next.

Skydancer had Stanne on guitars as the main songwriter
Gallery through Projector had Fredrik on guitars as main songwriter, who was an absolute beast
Haven was a bridging record where they didn't really know what they were doing
And then the three from Damage -> Fiction had Martin as the main songwriter and riff machine
Not sure what they were doing with anything Void-onward. And its a shame Martin's left the band now
|
| |
Haven is probably their worst for me, it’s so boring and one-note

Album Rating: 4.5
The fact that Skydancer and Haven has the same average rating is pretty bizarre.

Disagreed hard Jester.
|
| |
Haven MIGHT be better than We Are the Void but only because Haven has a better overall aesthetic and production to my ears
