I'm listening to Jane Doe right now. Tbh, this caught me more initially. Where I'm at, Jane Doe is sitting at a solid 4.

I got into botch before converge too, so I understand that, but at the same time Converge come off as more profound. Jane Doe will inevitably become a 10/10 for you.

I'm waiting for that day! I keep coming back and checking to see how it holds up and its steadily increasing but to me it's still just "good noise". I'm sure it'll click one day in the way this did, as this is a masterpiece to me. I don't think I'll ever be able to really get into Dillinger though :/.

Yeah it took years before Jane Doe actually grew on me.

I actually got into Dillinger first, tried Converge, didn't really like it, then got into this, and then tried Converge again and loved it.

Damn, I must be pretty messed up then haha. Dillinger is the one I can listen to the least, but just got into Botch after getting into bands like Toe. I feel like its just progression, I've gotta open myself up more and more and really listen to what's going on to get into Converge and Dillinger.

With Converge, start with Petitioning and When Forever Comes Crashing, then work your way chronologically

Converge and dillinger are more accessible than you think. It's not like deathcore where the aggression is "fake." Converge is easily liked by so many because of how genuine the anger and frustration is. It helps that their songs are super simple yet still ambitious and experimental.
Dillinger is actually just hype as fuck, and throughout the chaos there's a surprising amount of order. Their choruses reel people back in from too much devastation and the instrumentation is mindboggling, yes, but syncopated and rhythmic in this way that after a few listens is head-bobbable.
Botch is definitely my favorite still because, their songs are heavy as fuck, the riffs and Brian Cook's bass work are shell-shocking. Also Verellen's voice is just so well-rounded even if it comes off as amateurish.
So this is basically my love letter to mathcore. If you want a less noisy and metallic converge you should also check out Every Time I Die.

Ironically enough, I have a bit of a hard time getting into ETID, I don't know what it is. All their songs just sound kinda samey to me.

"Ironically enough, I have a bit of a hard time getting into ETID, I don't know what it is. All their songs just sound kinda samey to me."
Their sound has certainly evolved throughout the years from being more Botch-like to slowly including the southern riffs and more straightforward hardcore sound. They are insanely consistent though, which can be seen as a negative to some or a huge positive to others, myself included.

I've always had a problem with ETID as well. I definitely don't think they're bad but something rubs me the wrong way.

I mean, I like pretty much everything I've heard from them, but nothing stands out as particularly special imo

ETID have released some great records. I know what you mean about none of them really standing out though. Their latest has some superb tracks on it though.
As for this album, this is a beast. Everything works.

ETID should not be mentioned in the same sentence/breath/thread as botch

Definitely. It is up there with Jane Doe and Poison the Well's The Opposite of December (although that album is a lot simpler musically speaking).
