I think it kind of peaks out on the first song, but I agree that it's pretty awesome

I still think it's dickish, but even dicks make good music ;)

i think you guys are missing that this was all before all that stuff became trite nonsense. these guys WERE about that in a real sense.

There's probably a lot of truth to this, and it's good that it was an original idea when they were doing it. But the problem I have isn't that they were doing something that was trite or overdone, it's that to say that and "be about that in a real sense" is (IMO) stupid and pretentious.

But I don't know much about the band outside of that, except for that they were the real fucking deal, which I respect a lot. But when I first picked up the album I hadn't heard it, just heard that I needed to have it. So I didn't know anything about the band when I read that and I've just hated that part of them since then, so maybe I'm biased against it.

Still love the album though, and feel the 4.5 coming because I listen to this now so much more than ever before.

That didn't change my opinion of them. I kinda wouldn't have it be any other way.

Dude Hollowed Out Chest and Skeletons both give Apparition a pretty good run I think.

there's nothing wrong with making a statement unless your statement sucks

Their statement was kinda over the top but it was probably at least a little bit tongue-in-cheek.

to be honest the statement a band makes is like the least important thing to me. if that shit sounds good i like it.

But actually even statements i completely disagree with are sometimes validated by the sound of a band. In This is a Hostage Situation by Off Minor for example (who ive been fucking in love with lately), they say "People who need people are the wretchedest in the world." Something I wouldn't agree with, but it's probably one of the coolest things to ever happen in music IMO.

There's this statement The Mars Volta made like "what of this mongrel architect, a broken arm of sewers set, past present and future tense, clipside of the pink-eyed fountain"

but I don't understand it so it doesn't bother me.
