It's my favourite too, but the I've no issue with people giving the award to Images or Awake.

Yeah, I know what you mean. But I continue thinking that Images is less balanced and despite Awake is really great, I still prefer Metropolis and in the second place Six Degrees.

In any case all of their 90s material is better than what came after Six Degrees, except Octavarium is my favorite song of theirs so that's the exception for me. Even Dream and Day and FII grew on me a lot over the years.

There's still some great music to be found on their post-2000 albums, with the exception of the self-titled, maybe. The major problem is their loss of soul; even in here, the overblown complex parts like The Dance of Eternity are balanced by well-written melodies that actually channel emotion

I find it funny how the wank and loss of soul is their giant problem yet Dance of Eternity is my second favourite track on here.

Personally I've never been a huge fan of that song; as much as I love progressive and complex passages, I have trouble with them being a storm of ideas rather than a progression

The Dance of Eternity is great but agreed with Oni, I just meant as far as full albums go their 90s material is much stronger. Pretty much all of their later albums still have at least a few great songs each though.

From Overture (or even Regression) to Beyond this Life is probably the greatest streak of songs they've composed

This has a couple of their greatest songs but jesus does it overstay its welcome. It still blows my mind that this is considered their best album.

This blew my mind in grade 8 but only because it was the first concept album I'd ever heard lol

heard like literally 10 concept albums before it and always felt this was the beginning of their 'what's a song guis hehe?' phase.
