synth pop is just another word for electronic music tbh. Gary Numan is called Synth Pop but his stuff is pretty dim and icy, and DM's is pretty cynical and dark with intertwining themes of S&M, lust, addiction, and damnation...although compared to a wacky electronic oriented group like Skinny Puppy, I guess one could say Depeche are "poppy". I wouldn't really though, just catchy on the Singles side.
Great album btw. This, Faith and Devotion and Delta are my favorites by them... but this will hold a special place to me since it got me into music that wasn't metal or punk back in the early 90's. And solid review. Lol I just realized you did the reviews for pretty much all their albums from the mid 80's on, great job on them too!
